This is a hand-held compass that is made of brass, has a securable leather case with a belt loop on the back, a blank card and a nice thank you gift from the maker. It weighs 4.5 ounces and is 2"L x 2"W.   This is a very nice-looking compass, with a brass casing, a clear glass face, and readable, well-defined markings inside. The brown leather case it comes in has a strap and buckle-style closure so it stays securely held inside, and there is a belt loop on the back. It has a cord attached for wearing around the neck. The needle wobbles a lot more than any other compasses I have owned, and I was concerned that it wouldn't be reliable. So, I tested it against two other reliable compasses- one handheld and the one on my phone. This little compass was as accurate as the others everytime. A couple of things I noticed with this one, while testing it: •First, it needs to be very stable and very level to get a good read. The needle is so shaky that holding it causes the point to dip down and hit the bottom of the metal housing. So setting it down on as flat a surface as possible, at least with the one I received, is going to be a necessity. •Second, if and when you are out camping or hiking with this compass, (or any compass for that matter), remember that, if you also have your cell phone with you, your compass will be affected by the magnetic field your phone creates, instead of the earths. Every time I held them near each other, the needle on the two handheld compasses changed direction- not drastically, but if you are relying on a compass to get you out of a bad situation someday, even the slightest degree off can make the difference between life and death. This came with an added bonus as well. Besides a blank card to use if you are giving this to someone, it has a brass clip with a small hourglass attached. I think it's a key chain, and it's a nice extra gift from the manufacturer, as a very nice way to say thank you for your business. This is a fully working, well-made, very handsome compass set. It is the perfect gift not only as an important safety tool for those who love the great outdoors, but also for collectors who love unique display pieces, or a keepsake gift for a graduate. I gave this to my husband as a Valentine's Day gift and told him that it would always help him find his way home to me. He carries it in his pocket now, every day. This is a very good value for the price, and considering the craftsmanship, the accuracy and functionality, the appealing design and the thank you gift, this gets a solid recommendation from me.
